Pia Pircher, Viola da Gamba, was born in Vienna and is currently a scholar at the Royal College of Music. She is also completing a Doctorate in Philosophy focusing on music for the viol at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Pia has studied with and received masterclasses from viol players including Jordi Savall, Paolo Pandolfo, Wieland Kuijken and Hille Perl. She has received numerous prizes in competitions, including First Prize at the 11th Biagio Marini Competition and the 5th International Viola da Gamba Competition Bach-Abel.
She has performed with ensembles including Le Concert des Nations, English Touring Opera, Armonico Tributo Austria, Staatskapelle Dresden, with artists such as Jordi Savall, Reinhard Goebel, and Vittorio Ghielmi. Pia has performed in venues across Europe and the Far East including the Royal Albert Hall, Semperoper Dresden, Barockfestspiele Bad Arolsen and the Salzburger Festspiele as both a chamber musician and soloist. Pia´s aim is to bring the viol into the 21st Century, performing contemporary music as well as reviving lost works form the baroque.
